 ðŸ“• LITERATURE / GRAMMAR:

We continued to read about Jonathan and his journey at Hemlock Mountain. We haven't seen the bears just yet, but he got Aunt Emma's big iron pot! We practiced reading with expression and pacing.

We have been learning about subjects / predicates, kinds of sentences, and nouns. This week, we have introduced pronouns.

📕 SAYINGS: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

📕 POETRY: Please have your child practice these poems at home.

The Pasture by Robert Frost
I'm going out to clean the pasture spring;
I'll only stop to rake the leaves away
(And wait to watch the water clear, I may):
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.

I'm going out to fetch the little calf
That's standing by the mother. It's so young,
It totters when she licks it with her tongue.
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.

The Goops (Table Manners)
by Gelette Burgess

 The Goops they lick their fingers,
And the Goops they lick their knives;
They spill their broth on the tablecloth—

Oh, they lead disgusting lives!

The Goops they talk while eating,
And loud and fast they chew;
And that is why I’m glad that I

Am not a Goop--are you?

Rope Rhyme
by Eloise Greenfield

Get set, ready now, jump right in
Bounce and kick and giggle and spin
Listen to the rope when it hits the ground
Listen to that clappedy-slappedy sound
Jump right up when it tells you to
Come back down, whatever you do
Count to a hundred, count by ten
Start to count all over again

That’s what jumping is all about
Get set, ready now,
Jump
right
out!

The Caterpillar
by Christina Rossetti

Brown and furry
Caterpillar in a hurry;
Take your walk
To the shady leaf, or stalk.
May no toad spy you,
May the little birds pass by you;
Spin and die,
To live again a butterfly.

October’s Party
by George Cooper (Stanza 1 only)

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
